We can not live without plants. We rely on them for the food we eat, our medicines, products, chemicals, clothing, material, homes, for the air we breath, and everything in between. Plants are integral for life on earth, and yet, more and more of us are becoming less and less familiar with - and connected to - the ecology that surrounds us. This is called Plant Awareness Disparity (PAD). The tendency to overlook or undervalue plants in the environment.

Elmsdale Park is situated in the south end of Kitchener. It neighbours Sheridan Nurseries, The GRT Bus Garage, and a growing residential community. During the years of the "Kitchener Landfill", the land which is now Elmsdale Park was once park of the facilities dumping ground.
Elmsdale Park is situated in the south end of Kitchener. It neighbours Sheridan Nurseries, The GRT Bus Garage, and a growing residential community. During the years of the "Kitchener Landfill", the land which is now Elmsdale Park was once park of the facilities dumping ground.
Verde Living, which is the development going up right next to Elmsdale Park, is excepted to bring a surge in population density to the Elmsdale/Ottawa - Chandler block. Two 8 storey towers, 532 units; equalling an estimated 1500-2000 additional residents to the area. Between Elmsdale Park and McLennan Park, these parks will be integral placemaking sites for the rapidly growing residential community.Â

McLennan Park History
McLennan Park History
Formerly the Kitchener Landfill, is a 39-hectare site located at 901 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener. Approximately 2 million tonnes were landfilled between 1958 to 1978. The City of Kitchener and the Region of Waterloo entered into a lease agreement to develop the former landfill into a city park. McLennan Park currently offers a number of amenities for outdoor active use.
